Arrival of the Prince of Wales at Lisbon, 1876. The future King Edward VII visits Portugal. 'The Prince of Wales left Madrid...by a special railway train through Ciudad Real and Badajoz, travelling through the night; he arrived at Lisbon...at three in the afternoon. His Royal Highness was received at the station by King Louis, his father, King Ferdinand, two of the Ministers, the British Consul, Admirals Seymour and Phillimore, the Staff Commander of the Serapis, and the dignitaries of the Portuguese Court. The Prince alighted from the carriage with the President of the Council, who had attended him during his journey from the Spanish frontier. He exchanged a cordial greeting with King Louis and King Ferdinand. The members of his suite and the Court personages were then presented, and the band played "God Save the Queen".'
