Goodwood Races - Goodwood Prize Cup - "The Masque of Comus", 1858. Horse-racing trophy, '...modelled by Mr. Armstead, and manufactured by Messrs. Hunt and Roskell, of Bond-street. It is of the style of the Cinque Cento, being, at the same time, of the Etruscan character, and showing such improvements as the taste of modern art has suggested. The subject illustrated by the chasings, which, be it observed, are of more than usual finish and elaboration in every part, is the masque of "Comus," the early production of Milton. Mr. Armstead has introduced a variety of groups - the Attendant Spirit, Comus with his Crew, the Lady, the Brothers, and Sabrina; besides the accessories of aerial beings, trees, flowers, &c. In fine, the artist may be said to have rewritten the entire poem in silver'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858.
