Sketches in India - Brahmin Students, 1858. 'We are indebted to the "Photographic Album" of Bombay for the characteristic Sketch of two Brahmin Students of English Literature...These two youths are members of the higher class of natives devoted to secular duties in the Southern Maratta country and the Carnatic, and are not of the class who devote themselves to the study of the Vedas, or the devotees of Shastras, or the scrubbers or anointers of the idols of stone and metal. Their form and figure, which do not differ much from the Western mould, are indicative of the Aryan race, to which the Brahmin belongs. They have come to the seat of the Presidency to pursue their study of the English language'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858.
