Osman Khan, Wuzeer to Shah Soojah - from a drawing by W. Carpenter, Jun., 1858. 'This noble-looking chief, after following the fortunes of his Sovereign, and sharing in the disasters after the retreat from Cabul, was employed by the English Government, and was in the fort of Attock when the second Sikh war broke out. It was attacked by the Sikhs, and the garrison was obliged, after a spirited defence, to capitulate. On the settlement of the Punjaub he retired to Peshawur, where he has since lived, much respected by natives and Europeans'. From "Illustrated London News", 1858.
