The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, c.1809-c.1812. The two domes and the tall bell tower are part of the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of Rome’s largest churches. The ruins with the six tall, circular arches in the left foreground are very similar to the remains of the Aqua Julia, an aqueduct that conveyed drinking water to ancient Rome.
