Mount Vesuvius, with Torre Annunziata (?), c.1811. Knip’s annotation led to some confusion. While there is a place called Annunziata, it lies more to the south, farther south even than Naples, on the same peninsula as Sorrento. The place depicted here is clearly situated at the foot of the volcano near Naples. This must be Torre Annunziata, on the southern slope of Mount Vesuvius. It is now an industrial town.
