View of the Palatine Hill in Rome, with the Arch of Constantine, c.1809-c.1812. In this drawing, space has been reserved in the foreground for the Arch of Constantine. Unfolding behind it is a vista of the ruins of the imperial palaces on the southern slope of the Palatine Hill. The draughtsman must have stood with his back to the Colosseum or judging from the fairly high vantage point on one of the galleries of the Colosseum.
