The prodigal son wastes his inheritance, c.1540-c.1550. Son (Filius Prodigus) at the table with lust (Caro) and greed (Avaritia). Personification of the world (Mundus) trampled conscience (Conscientia). Selfishness (Proprum Commudum) steals the money pouch. Behind him are transience (Vanitas), heresy (Haeresis) and reason (Ratio), playing bagpipes. Above the scene in a cloud the spirit of inaccuracy and fanatic (Spiritus Erronei & Fanatics). Print from a series of six woodcuts with six-line Latin captions. The woodcut is hand-coloured where the costumes have been adjusted / modernized.
