The expulsion of the prodigal son, c.1540-c.1550. The son (Filius Prodigus) is driven out by poverty (Paupertas), while superstition (Superstitio) and heresy (Haeresis) show him the way to the Synagogue of Satan (Synagoga Sathanae). There he kneels before a man on a throne. On the throne is the word disease (Morbus), on the column of stubbornness (Obstinatio). Print from a series of six woodcuts with six-line Latin captions. The woodcut is hand-coloured where the costumes have been adjusted / modernized.
