Former general as a street musician, 1895-1899. A veteran who was a general in the Dutch East Indies, and lost his left leg in battle, tries to earn money as a busker by singing to a barrel organ. On his chest is the Military William Order. In the background a mother with child in her arms and three children playing on a staircase, two men on the right.
