The artist himself and his family, 1796. The Dutch painter Warner Horstink with wife and children, depicted in a window niche. Horstink stands with his sketchbook and pen, His wife holds one of their sons who is wearing a striped suit and has a whip and the reins of a toy horse in his hands. An older boy stands behind. At far right is a daughter with a flowering pot-plant; in front of her is a portrait of a dead baby. Due to high infant mortality, the inclusion of such an image in a family portrait was not unusual.
