Fawkes was one of the conspirators in the Gunpowder Plot, a Roman Catholic conspiracy to blow up English Houses of Parliament on 5 November 1605 when King James I was due to open a new session. At their trial all the defendants were found guilty of high treason, and were hanged and quartered.
