He was proclaimed the rightful king after his nephew, the 12-year-old Edward V, was declared illegitimate. Edward and his younger brother were imprisoned in the Tower of London, and after their disappearance from there, accusations circulated that they had been murdered on King Richard's orders. In 1485, Henry Tudor's forces defeated Richard's army at the Battle of Bosworth Field, and Richard was killed. His body was found in September 2012 under a car park in Leicester.
