French cavalry at Luneville: a charge of the cuirassiers of the Imperial Guard, 1860. 'The greater portion of the cavalry in the military district of Nancy, under the command of Marshal Canrobert, is at present quartered at Luneville, in the barracks of the Orangery, which is admirably adapted for the reception of a large number of horse soldiers. Much attention is now being paid to the exercises of the French cavalry, who are to be trained to fight on foot with nearly the same facility as on horseback...the Cuirassiers of the Imperial Guard...form, perhaps, the most picturesque as well as the most formidable portion of the French heavy cavalry. On the occasion depicted in our Engraving the troops were under the command of General Daumas...'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
