The release of politicial prisoners from the Castellamare, Palermo, on June 19 - from a sketch by our special artist, Frank Vizetelly, 1860. View of '...the triumphal progress of Baron Riso and other political prisoners along the Via Macqueda after their release, on the 19th of June, from the Fort of Castellamare, where they had been kept in confinement since the 5th of April. The ovation they received was wonderful; and what assisted greatly to heighten the effect of the scene was the fact of the young Baroness being in the carriage with her husband, whom she held in an affectionate embrace. A priest in the procession was so overcome with joy that he did nothing but dance by the side of the carriage in which the released prisoners were seated, and shout, with the full force of his lungs, which were uncommonly strong, "Evviva l'ltalia!" "Evviva Garibaldi," &c'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
