Magnificent service of silver plate and dessert service recently presented to Sir Samuel Morton Peto, Bart., M.P., 1860. 'The object of the testimonial was to mark the sense of the county for the important and lasting benefits conferred upon it, owing to the exertions of the hon. Baronet to secure a complete railway system running through all its most important districts, and connecting its chief towns and places together...The testimonial consists of a richly-chased and very beautiful silver ornament for the centre of the table. Its base consists of a panelled plateau, from the ends of which rise scrolls, supporting branches for six candles and a canopy for flowers...The ornament is supported on a richly-chased separate plateau...There are also silver and silver-gilt ornaments for the ends of the table. The whole has been executed by Messrs. R. and S. Garrard and Co...The fruit-baskets and compotiers of the dessert service are from the models of Pradier, Pitts, and Strephon...The modelling and manufacture were executed at the Coalbrook Dale Works, under the superintendence of Mr. Daniell, of New Bond-street, London. The total value of the presentation is about £2000'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
