Westminster School, 1860. Private school for boys in London. 'The school, originally the dormitory of the monks of St. Peter's, is of great antiquity: it has a massive roof of chestnut, and a semicircular apse or recess at the upper end, once, perhaps, the site of an altar. This apse is termed the "shell," the name given also to the form next below the sixth who sit there'. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
