Three Nuns in the Portal of a Church, c1860. This painting depicts three Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in their traditional attire (worn until the 1960s). The sisters established their first mission in Baltimore in 1822. This watercolour by a French artist is not dated, but as William T. Walters puchased many works on paper while in Paris during the Civil War, it likely dates from before 1865.
