Peter Cunningham, of the English Battalion, 1860. British military fighting in Italy, as part of a '...battalion composed of North Italians and Palermitans...under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Dunne and several other English officers...Peter Cunningham, a young English sailor...asked Colonel Windham to pitch him over the vineyard-wall behind which the Neapolitan riflemen were intrenched. The wall was seven feet in height, and he fell amongst the enemy like a bombshell, and with nearly the same effect, for they scampered off right and left, startled at seeing the youngster come plump amongst them'.
