Seven Days of the Week, 16th century. This icon represents the seven sacred events associated with the days of the week: the Resurrection (Sunday); the assembly of the archangels (Monday); the beheading of John the Baptist (Tuesday); the Annunciation (Wednesday); Christ Washing the Disciples' Feet (Thursday); the Crucifixion (Friday); and the Second Coming (Saturday). The saints, including kings, bishops, apostles, martyrs, monks, and nuns, are gathered below Christ to praise him and await his judgement. The Savior holds an open book with the words "Come, O blessed of [my father]" (Matthew 25:34).
