Gilbert Sheldon, Archbishop of Canterbury, 1667. Gilbert Sheldon (1598-1677) was an English religious leader who served as the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1663 until his death. Miniature painter Samuel Cooper received his training from his uncle, the well-known portrait miniaturist John Hoskins.
