"The Child's Prayer", by H. Lejeune, from Mr. Morby's Collection, Royal Exchange Gallery, 24, Cornhill, 1862. 'Mr. Lejeune, one of our most graceful painters of domestic subjects, has, in the little picture which we engrave, produced a study full of truth and healthful touching interest. The face of the young lad, intent upon his morning devotions, beams with innocence and hopeful cheerfulness; and this one object is of itself so completely satisfactory as the subject for a picture that the artist has done right to treat the scene in which it is placed with the utmost simplicity. [The painting]...cannot fail to shine as a gem on the walls of the nursery, schoolroom, or boudoir in which it may be placed. It was purchased by Mr. Morby from the painter, but has since passed from his hands'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
