The International Exhibition: chimneypiece by Jackson and Sons, 1862. 'Our engraving sets forth a chimneypiece by Messrs. George Jackson and Sons, of Rathbone-place, moulded in carton pierre, a new material which seems well suited to fabrication into articles of this class. The general block of this work is good, and the upright treatment of the frieze is suggestive of strength, which is always pleasing when a weight has to be sustained. The large brackets, terminated above in lions' heads, spring direct from the base, and thus a sense of great security is conveyed. The mantel-shelf is peculiar in having projecting parts over the side brackets, and not the straight form, which is usual'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
