The International Exhibition: "The Departure of Hagar and Ishmael", modelled by Forsyth, 1862. Example from '...a bijou collection of the best examples of ecclesiastical and monumental sculpture and decoration, painted and inlaid church and other mediaeval furniture, wood-carvings, tapestry, embroidery, &c. Facing the principal or western entrance to the Mediaeval Court is...[a] group, in plaster, about 3ft. in height, representing "The Departure of Hagar and Ishmael," which we have engraved. The sentiment and expression are worthy of the early sculptors; and, while answering architectonic requirements by its balanced quantities, it does not violate our advanced conception of the capabilities of art, like many other works of both painting and sculpture affecting medievalism'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
