The International Exhibition: [figurines], 1862. '"Paul and Virginia", a statuette group, modelled by Robert Cauer; Porcelain figures bearing a flower-basket; Bronze statue of Wedgwood, by E. Davis...The episode here represented...[is] that of Paul bearing Virginia over the slippery rocks of the River of the Three Peaks on their perilous return from the slave-master who lived on the other side of the "Ile de France"...We have selected this ornamental group [figures bearing a flower-basket] as one of the best specimens of the Austrian Imperial Porcelain Factory at Vienna...It is executed in white porcelain known as "biscuit"...[Figurine of Josiah Wedgwood:] an excellent statue...of the greatest potter of modern times...The sculpture is a thoroughly sound and manly work of art, the likeness being founded on the portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds'.
