'The pattern, consisting of a quatrefoil with a shield filling...is, undoubtedly, of great merit; it is, also, in the mediaeval style, and is founded on a square basis, while the filling of each geometrical figure points in an upward direction. The pattern is chiefly in rich yellow browns and gold, but the cross in the centre of the shield is blue, a colour which harmonises with the prevailing tone of the design'.
