The International Exhibition: floorcloth, by Messrs. Hare and Co., of Bristol, 1862. 'The laws which govern the decoration of the floor, and of horizontal surfaces generally, have been considered in our articles on carpets, and they may be regarded as practically carried out in the floorcloth which we now engrave. Hence it seems to us worthy of special notice, for this work consists of an agreeable arrangement of simple ornamental forms, coloured in a manner which at once makes it suitable for its intended position. The honourable firm which has produced it is well known as taking the lead in this particular manufacture, and its success is probably attributable to the liberality of the principals to those whom they employ, and the friendship which has thus been engendered between the masters and workpeople'.
