The British Association at Bath: aqueduct of the Kennet and Avon Canal, at Limpley Stoke, near Bath, 1864. 'The aqueduct of the Kennet and Avon Canal, over the River Avon, about a mile from Limpley Stoke and three miles from Bath, is greatly admired for the beauty of its elevation. It is the work of the late John Rennie. The engineering interest and character attached to this aqueduct have been since his time increased, for not only does it carry the waters of the Avon and Kennet Canal across the vale of the Avon, but it forms a bridge beneath which flows the Avon, and through a lateral arch passes the line of the Bath and Frome Railway. Beneath the high-backed bridge in the foreground of our Illustration lies the junction of the Somerset Coal Canal with that of the Kennet and Avon'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
