The banners read: 'The Working Man's Pleasure; The Rich & Poor [?]; Welcome Gladstone; Health to the Donor; Enjoyment of the People'. Farnworth Park was given to the people of Farnworth to provide a welcome rest from the daily drudge of the mills or mines. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
