The port and city of Rio De Janeiro, 1864. 'The Alto do Imperador, or Hill of the Emperor...is about 3000 ft. high, and commands, as our readers will see, a very fine prospect over the Bay of Rio de Janeiro. The Rio and Petropolis Railway passes through the low ground in the middle distance; and Manà, the railway terminus and little port where the steamers touch to take in their passengers for Rio, should be nearly opposite the end of the long island on the near side of the bay. On the further side is the city of Rio de Janeiro, running along the coast to the foot of the distant mountains on the right; and beyond this again is the entrance to the bay and to the Atlantic Ocean'.
