Edinburgh: the Castle, from the Greyfriars' Cemetery, 1864. 'The first object which every one visits in the Old Town is the renowned Castle of Edinburgh. Its origin is lost in the mists of antiquity, but the situation is so commanding that it has doubtless been occupied ever since primitive man became civilised into the arts of offence and defence...The ascent is by a road...The principal objects shown to visitors are the regalia and the Mons Meg - the latter a large cannon, which burst, in 1682'.
