Inauguration of the bust of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at the high school, Edinburgh, 1862. 'The coming of age of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales [future King Edward VII] was generally observed...throughout Scotland...a fine bust of the Prince, which has been executed by Mr. John Steell, R.S.A., sculptor, as a memorial of the visit of his Royal Highness to Edinburgh in 1859 and of his connection with the High School, was presented to the municipal patrons of that institution, in name of the subscribers, by the Lord Advocate, in a most eloquent speech. The inaugural ceremony was witnessed by a very numerous assemblage, probably the largest that has taken place in the High School before or since the occasion of his Royal Highness's visit at the annual examination in July, 1859. The Lord Provost having replied in the name of the magistrates and council, Dr. Schmitz, Rector of the High School, returned thanks on behalf of himself and his colleagues. He spoke warmly in praise of the Prince's character and disposition'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
