The late M. Mocquard, private secretary to the Emperor Napoleon III., 1864. 'Marshal Vaillant pronounced a funeral oration over the grave, in which he praised the fidelity of M. Mocquard to the Emperor. He said that he had come to bring the last farewell of the Sovereign from whom the deceased had so lately received a last embrace. M. de la Guerronnère also made a speech, in which he paid a tribute to M. Mocquard in the name of the Senate and the press. It is announced that the literary works of M. Mocquard will shortly be collected and published in one volume. He wrote, besides "La Prise de Pekin," a comedy and other dramatic pieces. A few years ago he published a novel, called "Jessie," which had a certain degree of success. He was a lively and agreeable companion, and personally much liked, apart from all political partisanship. As private secretary and Chef du Cabinet, he was a zealous and confidential servant of the Emperor, for whom he seems to have felt a very strong attachment in earlier years, when none but the immediate followers of Prince Louis Napoleon had any expectation of his ever obtaining the throne'.
