The late King of Wirtemberg, 1864. Engraving of '...the deceased King of Wirtemberg, whose name was Frederick Charles, but who reigned by the title of William I...He deserves to be remembered as a just, faithful, and benevolent Prince, who ruled his small dominions in peace, and studied the welfare of his people, during the long period of forty-eight years. His death has caused a vacancy in the most noble Order of the Garter. In the present condition of Germany, it is probable that his son and successor, King Charles I., who is brother-in-law to the Russian Czar, will scarcely enjoy so tranquil and easy a reign'.
