'The merits of Viscount Lifford, in originating and promoting the Finn Valley line of railway - the first to penetrate the county of Donegal - lately received a graceful recognition from the people of that district...Since the opening [in 1863,] the line has been progressing most favourably, and promises to be one of the best railway speculations started in Ireland'.
