Government House, Auckland, New Zealand, 1864. '...we present a View of the Government House at Auckland, the capital of the colony, where Sir George Grey, the present Governor, usually resides, and where the General Legislative Assembly, composed of the elect representatives of the several Provinces of Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Nelson, Canterbury, Marlborough, Otago, and Southland, is accustomed to meet. There is, however, an increasing agitation for the removal of the seat of government to Wellington or some other place with a more central situation than that of Auckland. The building represented in our Engraving is one which has been erected, within the last three or four years, to replace the original Government House, which was destroyed by fire. It is surrounded by a public pleasure-garden'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
