Palmerston Church, near Dublin, [Ireland], 1864. Engraving from a sketch by Mr. Wakeman. 'Of the ancient village the church only remains. It is an ante-Norman structure, consisting of nave and chancel...The chancel arch is semicircular, and its sides are inclined-a peculiarity indicative of very high antiquity when found in Irish ecclesiastical remains. The doorway, which is now stopped up, was placed, as usual, in the centre of the west gable. It is square-headed, like the doorways of many of the celebrated round towers of Ireland, and its sides also incline. The windows, which are of the lancet form, appear to have been remodelled at the close of the twelfth or beginning of the thirteenth century'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
