The British Association at Bath: Nunney Castle, 1864. 'At the distance of two miles from Frome is the picturesque village of Nunney. The old castle was erected by the family of De la Mere, and subsequently garrisoned by Charles I. After a stubborn resistance it was destroyed by the Parliamentary forces, in 1643. In the church, possessing, in common with many others in Somersetshire, a tower of great architectural beauty, are some remarkable monuments to the De la Mere family'.
