The Prince and Princess of Wales at at the gate of Rosenborg Castle, [Copenhagen, Denmark], 1864. The future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in Scandinavia. 'This edifice, built by King Christian IV., is approached through a park or public garden, and over a foot-bridge crossing a moat that at one time surrounded the castle and formed an important element in its defence. The building is in the style of Italian Renaissance, grafted on the ancient Gothic of Northern Europe. Inigo Jones, at that period chief architect to the King, is said to have furnished the plan for Rosenborg'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
