Die Römischen Ansichten (Views of Rome)/Rovine del Palazzo de Cesari, 1810. From a series of 20 etchings in the series Die Römischen Ansichten (Views of Rome). Depicts, as the Italian title beneath the image implies, the ruins of the Palace of the Caesars. In the foreground, social interactions enliven the sublime yet idyllic scene before us: there's a seated man with his dog in the foreground, and a woman and child walking past, both looking back at him. To the right, there is a group of happy peasant like figures, one of whom is playing a guitar-like instrument.
