Lectern and Bible presented to the Prince of Wales, 1864. 'We have engraved a photograph of the carved oak Lectern or reading-desk, with the Bible upon it, which were, along with a Common Prayer-book, lately presented to the Prince of Wales by the Earl of Dalhousie, the Earl of Shaftesbury, Lord Charles Russell, the Hon. A. Kinnaird, and other gentlemen, in the name of more than eight thousand subscribers of one shilling each, as a token of their loyal attachment to the son of our Queen, with their earnest congratulations upon his marriage. The deputation, about twenty in number, had an interview with his Royal Highness at Marlborough House...when their address was read to him by Mr. Richard Nugent, the hon. secretary...The Bible, Prayer-book, and lectern were all prepared by Messrs. S. Bagster and Sons, of Paternoster-row. The first is a large-paper copy of Bagster's edition, "The Comprehensive Bible." with notes, references, maps, and parallel passages. It is finely bound and decorated with exquisite taste. The Lectern is of a Gothic design, from drawings by Mr. G. R. Clarke. It bears the arms of the Prince, with coronet and plume, at each end; the finials at the top are lily blossoms and buds'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
