Danish infantry soldiers - photographed from the life, 1864. Engraving from a sketch '...by our own Artist at the head-quarters of the Prussian army...[of] two of the Danish infantry soldiers; one of them, as he appeared when the photograph was taken, just ready to march for his regiment; and the other, who belongs to the 1st Regiment of the Line, stationed on the lookout. Both the men's likenesses are well preserved; and in each case we are struck with the intelligence, the spirit, and the manly simplicity of the men's expression of face. Their uniform is plain and convenient, though of course it would have been easy to select from the lifeguards, hussars, or dragoons of the Danish army a specimen of more dashing attire'.
