The Elections in the Metropolitan Boroughs: Finsbury election: the nomination on Clerkenwell Green, [London], 1865. 'The Finsbury nomination took place in front of the Middlesex Sessions House, at noon, on the Tuesday. Our Engraving shows the arrival of one of the popular candidates, in a carriage and four, amidst the enthusiastic cheers of his supporters. Mr. Alfred Carr, the returning officer, presided. Mr. Cox was proposed by Mr. Dennis and seconded by Mr. Shillibeer; Alderman Lusk was proposed by Mr. Thompson and seconded by Mr. Surr; Mr. W. Phillips was proposed by Mr. J. Tidmarsh and seconded by Mr. G. Routledge; Mr. M'Cullagh Torrens was proposed by Mr. Hopwood and seconded by Mr. Tyler; Mr. Perfitt was proposed by Mr. Lake and seconded by another elector. The five candidates having spoken, the show of hands was taken, and declared in favour of Mr. Cox and Sir. Perfitt'. From "Illustrated London News", 1865.
