The British Channel Squadron in Portland Roads, [Dorset], 1865. View '...from a sketch by our special artist...of the squadron lying at anchor in Portland Roads, on the Sunday, immediately before its departure. The sketch was taken from the Nothe, at Weymouth. The ironclads Black Prince, Achilles, Defence, Prince Consort, and Hector, are lying towards the end of the promontory, on the left-hand side; the flagship, Edgar, occupies a central position, with the wooden screw-steamer frigates Liverpool, Octavia, and Constance, and the ironclad Research; the gun-boats and despatch-boats are to the right hand, near which are the small craft in the harbour'.
