The Atlantic Telegraph Expedition: preparing for the final attempt to grapple the lost cable - from a sketch by our special artist, 1865. 'Our Illustration shows a party of the men on deck, near the bow end of the ship, arranging the coils of rope previous to lowering the grapnel for the last time, on the 11th of August. It had been lowered the day before, but had failed to catch the cable. The rope and grapnel having been hauled back next morning, preparations were made for the next and final attempt'. From "Illustrated London News", 1865.
