The Atlantic Telegraph Expedition: the Great Eastern off Brighton on her return home - from a sketch by our special artist, 1865. The Great Eastern '...was lying off Brighton on Saturday week, early in the morning, when our Artist made a sketch, which we have engraved, showing the crowd of boats, full of curious and admiring visitors, which thronged close to her huge sides, to welcome those who had been engaged, though unsuccessfully, in one of the grandest of modem undertakings...We earnestly hope that next year...the laying of the Atlantic telegraph will be accomplished with the utmost facility and safety'.
