Book of subscribers to the Roebuck Testimonial at Sheffield, 1869. 'The presentation of a testimonial gift from the Liberal electors of Sheffield to Mr. Roebuck, late M.P. for that borough,...took place, on Friday, the 19th March, in the banqueting-room of the Cutlers' Hall. The chair was occupied by Mr. Mark Firth, the Master Cutler; the address of presentation was made by Alderman Fisher; and Mr. Roebuck returned thanks in a very characteristic speech. The substantial part of the gift was the sum of £3000 in Consols, which he was asked to accept for his daughter, Miss Roebuck. The names of the subscribers, with the address, are inscribed in a very handsome volume, bound by Messrs. House and Co., of Watson-walk, Sheffield. The binding is most gorgeous, in the illuminated Mediaeval style; the corner panels, in a sunk centre, contain gilt bosses, with the Sheffield arms engraved thereon; the centre sunk panel contains the monogram; while the clasps have engraved on them the crest, bearing the motto "Free," and the coat of arms of Mr. Roebuck's family.
