Bowl presented to the 68th Regiment in Burmah, 1869. 'A handsome farewell gift was presented to the officers' mess of the 68th Light Infantry by the community of residents at Rangoon, the capital of British Burmah, when the regiment quitted that country, where it had served during six years. It consists of a large elaborately-wrought silver bowl, of Burmese manufacture, which is 11 in. in height and 15 in. in diameter, richly ornamented with elephants, dragons, and other Burmese emblems; the bowl is gilt inside. It rests upon a silver stand, ornamented to match the bowl, with three imperial dragons forming the feet. The stand and bowl are supported by a silver-mounted ebony border plateau; but this and the silver stand are of English manufacture. A silver shield on the plateau bears the following inscription: "Presented to the officers of her Majesty's 68th Light Infantry, by the community of Rangoon, in testimony of their high esteem. Rangoon, September, 1863." On another shield on the opposite side of the plateau is engraved the badge of the 68th Light Infantry'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
