Christ Church, Kintbury, Berks., 1868. 'A new church has been built in the parish of Kintbury (or Kennetbury), near Hungerford, which also possesses an old Gothic church at the other end of the village. The architect of the new building is Mr. Talbot Bury. Its style is the Decorated, or that of the Second Pointed Period, but with no richness of detail. The material is brick, with stone dressings. The plan consists of a tower entrance, a nave, chancel, and vestry. The tower, which is at the south-west end of the nave, is very effective, both from its massiveness and from the picturesque appearance of the spire, which is of tile in two stages, with perforated woodwork intervening. The nave is 26 ft. wide and 66 ft. long, and will hold 250 adults; the seats are of deal, stained and varnished. The chancel is 29 ft. long and 20 ft. wide, and has four rows of sittings. The windows are of stained glass, by Messrs. Heaton and Butler; there is a good sculpture of "The Last Supper," at the east end of the church, by Mr. Farmer; and the pulpit and font are richly carved. Most of the work was done by local masons, stonecutters and carpenters'. From "Illustrated London News", 1868.
