'Lieutenant-General Ulysses Simpson Grant (his proper name was originally Hiram Ulysses Grant), who has just been formally installed in the greatest elective office, as President of the American Republic, is a native of Ohio, and forty-six years of age, having been born in 1822, of respectable parentage, in Clairmont County, in that State of the Union'.
